Steel Pulse
by Tom T
Back in 1981, iconic British reggae band Steel Pulse played its first Washington, DC gig at the 9:30 Club. I was there, and they were off the chain. Tonight – 26 years later – Pulse obliterated any comparisons to that night with one of the best reggae concerts I've ever seen…period! No mean feat, as the only remaining original members are lead vocalist/guitarist David Hinds and keyboardist/vocalist/toaster Selwyn Brown. It was a non-stop, near-two hour roots rockers party that covered Pulse's waterfront from classic faves ("Roller Skates", "Rally Round", "Taxi Driver") to rarely performed album tracks ("Heart Of Stone", "Drug Squad", "Your House") to joints from 2004's African Holocaust ("Global Warming", "No More Weapons", "Blazing Fire"). Go deh Rasta!
